Using modern knowledge, he turns the barren county into a prosperous haven, yet submits yearly petitions feigning poverty to fool the imperial court. Empress Zhou Caihuang travels incognito disguised as a man. She sees through his deception, marvels at his talent, and summons him to the capital. They test each other before cooperating closely.
