Synopsis

In a year of famine, Fubao lost her parents and was sent to live with her paternal aunt. Accidentally knocking over a pot of mushroom soup, she was cruelly cast outdoors by her aunt. Kind‑hearted Mr. and Mrs. Meng took the poor orphan home. Food was scarce in their household, and they could only scrape together half a bowl of thin congee.Fubao could understand what small animals said. Guided by a little mouse, she found white rice, enabling the whole family to eat rice. Everyone else shunned a sick hen, yet Fubao insisted on keeping it. As it turned out, the hen laid plenty of eggs. With this special gift, Fubao helped her loving family gradually get enough food and clothing.
