Chen Tianji, the male protagonist, ascends from the mortal world to the divine realm, only to discover that ascension is nothing but a grand deception. To the gods, the ascended humans are nothing more than insignificant ants, to be trampled and toyed with at will. Chen Tianji refuses to be a dog for the gods—he only wishes to live as a dignified human. "Better to die standing than to live on one’s knees." And so, he straightens his back and raises the fist of an ordinary man against those lofty, omnipotent gods.
