Synopsis
According to ancient records, loggers drafted to build the Qin Epang Palace disappeared in southern Jiangxi’s mountains and mutated into man-eating half-human creatures named Muke. Legend holds they guard The Yin Book of Lu Ban, a long-lost ancient occult scripture. Tales of the Muke circulate in the mountain town, backed by numerous sightings. In 1992, Lin Xi, a female college student researching the Muke, went missing at Muzi Pass, a famed haunt of the beasts. Two years later, Gu Shanjiu, a poor local bachelor carpenter, returned from Muzi Pass. He stated he was abducted by the Muke, narrowly escaped, and tricked them into giving him The Yin Book of Lu Ban. Gu soon became renowned as an occult master, yet his discovery sparked a bloody massacre in the isolated town, with casualties mounting. Three central riddles fuel the plot: Are the Muke real? Does The Yin Book of Lu Ban exist? Who will be the next victim? The full truth is revealed in the finale.
